Instagram Reel Ideas by Niche

Good Instagram Reel ideas give people a reason to save or send the video: a fix they'll want later, a quick how-to or a moment from your work. Here are 23 for real estate, fitness, beauty, ecommerce and coaching, each with a ready-made hook and a CTA that asks for a save or a share.

Instagram Reel ideas

A client's reaction seeing their dream house for the first time

Real Estate

Hook: “Watch her face when she sees the kitchen for the first time.”

CTA: “Tag someone who needs to see this.”

Why it works: A client's unscripted reaction lets future buyers picture their own moment, and it shows them what working with you feels like at its best.

How to film it: Film the first walk-in with the client's written permission, keep the reaction unedited, and add one line of context on screen.

The warm-up move I use with every client

Fitness & Wellness

Hook: “There's one warm-up move most people skip, and it's the one I use with every client.”

CTA: “Screenshot this before your next session.”

Why it works: Gym-goers want to avoid getting hurt, and one warm-up move is small enough to try in their next session.

How to film it: Demonstrate a move you use with clients, from the side and the front with one form cue on screen, then show the mistake you see most next to the correct version.

The skincare step everyone applies in the wrong order

Beauty & Skincare

Hook: “You're probably applying this skincare step in the wrong order, and it's undoing the rest of your routine.”

CTA: “Save this and fix your order tonight.”

Why it works: Fixing the order needs nothing new: skincare followers already own the products and can try it the same evening.

How to film it: Line the products up on a counter in the wrong order, then the right one, and apply each on skin in natural light.

A day fulfilling 50 orders from an apartment

Ecommerce & DTC

Hook: “Here's what fulfilling 50 orders from a one-bedroom apartment actually looks like.”

CTA: “Tag a fellow small business owner who gets this.”

Why it works: Small sellers and customers both like seeing the work behind a brand, and the apartment setting makes it relatable.

How to film it: Film a time-lapse of packing plus a few close-ups, show your real order count on screen as it goes, and keep customer addresses out of frame.

How we picked these 23 ideas

Instagram's 2023 ranking explainer says it ranks Reels partly on what viewers like, save, reshare and comment on. So we pulled the ideas from our 75-idea library whose CTA asks viewers to save, screenshot, bookmark, send or tag. We left out ideas that are mostly text on screen, because Instagram says it makes reels that are majority text less visible. Those live on the YouTube Shorts ideas page.

Tips for filming these ideas as Reels

  • Put the hook in your first line, spoken or on screen, before any greeting.
  • Ask for the save or the send. Instagram lists likes, saves, reshares and comments among the viewer activity it uses to rank Reels, and every idea here ends with a CTA that asks for one.
  • Film footage under any text. On-screen text is fine as long as it isn't the whole video: Instagram says it makes reels less visible when they're low-resolution, watermarked, muted, framed with borders, mostly text, or already posted on Instagram.
  • Upload the clean file. If you film for TikTok first, post your original file to Instagram, not the downloaded copy with the TikTok watermark.
  • Keep it at 3 minutes or under to reach new people. Reels can run up to 20 minutes, but Instagram says reels over 3 minutes won't be recommended to new audiences.

Questions

What are good Instagram Reel ideas?

Ideas that give viewers a reason to save or share: a fix for a mistake they're making (like a skincare step applied in the wrong order), a short how-to, a behind-the-scenes moment or a client story told with permission. Start with the questions your audience already asks you. The 23 ideas on this page are sorted by niche, each with a hook and a CTA.

What kind of Reels does Instagram show to more people?

Instagram doesn't promise reach to any reel, and neither do we. It says it ranks Reels on the viewer's recent activity (likes, saves, reshares, comments), their history with your account, information about the reel such as its audio and visuals, and your account's popularity. It also makes some reels less visible: low-resolution, watermarked, muted, bordered, mostly-text or already-posted ones.

What is the 3-second rule on Instagram?

It's a creator rule of thumb, not something Instagram publishes. Creators use the phrase to mean the opening seconds decide whether someone keeps watching, so the hook goes first. Every idea here comes with a hook starter you can say or show in your first line.

How do I turn a Reel idea into a script?

Press Turn into a script on any idea. The Script Generator opens with the idea and a matching goal filled in; choose Instagram and a 30- or 60-second length, and it writes a full spoken script with a hook, a build and a landing line. Want more openers first? Generate hooks gives you more from the same idea.

Are these Instagram Reel ideas free?

Yes. Some ideas on this page are open to everyone, and a free Captain Hook account unlocks all 23 here, and all 75 in the library, each with its hook starter and CTA. No credit card needed, and you can use any idea in your own videos.
